Project Educate: The History of Emoticons:Welcome to the first Article of the Emoticons week on projecteducate I hope you will learn at least something new from thisProject Educate: The History of Emoticons: by Krissi001
First of all I want to explain the differences between an Emoticon and a Smiley:
The Emoticon is a combination of different letters and punctuation. The Smiley is displayed as an Image.
But nowadays Smileys are also known as Emoticons.
Both are used to display different moods, actions and situations.
Let's start with the history of Emoticons:
The following text is kinda a summary (a list might be a better word) of what is written about Emoticons on Wikipedia
The first Emoticons were used before the people even knew what Emoticons are and long before the Internet was created !
In 1857: In Morse code, the number 73 was used to express „love and kisses" (it was changed to "best regards" after a while)
You can even find an Emoticon <b>
Project Educate: Different Styles of EmoticonsWelcome to the 2nd Article for the Emoticons week on projecteducateProject Educate: Different Styles of Emoticons by Krissi001
This time I want to present you different styles of "text Emoticons"!
This is based on the Emoticon list from Wikipedia
At first I want to show you the "western style":
Most of the time the Emoticons have their eyes on the left side, but you are also able to put them on the other side (;
The emoticons which are written in bold are displayed with a little trick, they would turn into "image Emoticons" if you wanted write them in a comment. To use them you have to write somewhere between the text for example: You have to write to get :-)
Here are some examples: (I won't show all because there are too many, for a full list just go to HERE)
:-) :) :o) :] :3 :c) :> =] 8)
